Volunteer

The Maryland Book Bank is powered by volunteers who help us sort incoming book donations so that we can distribute them to children and educators across Maryland.

We are happy to welcome group and individual volunteers to the warehouse to help us sort and organize book donations for the Book Bank and Bookmobile.

Volunteering at the Book Bank is a great opportunity to have a positive impact on your community and we appreciate your enthusiasm!

Volunteer FAQs

I’m a first-time Book Bank volunteer. What should I know?

Welcome and thank you for choosing to spend your time with us!

  • Individual volunteers must be over the age of 16. Children of all ages are welcome if supervised by an adult.

  • Some of the work may be physical, such as lifting boxes, sorting books, and organizing bookshelves. We are happy to adapt a task that accommodates volunteer needs.  Simply reach out here.

  • We are located in a warehouse, so please consider the weather when choosing clothes to wear.  We suggest comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes.

  • All volunteers must fill out a waiver before their first volunteer service. Our volunteer waiver can be found on our sign-up located here.

  • All volunteer slots are listed on our volunteer sign-up.  At this time, we are unable to accept walk-in volunteers.

My corporate group or organization wants to volunteer together.  How do we sign up?

We welcome corporate groups and organizations to volunteer at the Book Bank. Please inquire here so that we can organize a customized event for you!

Do you offer internships?

Yes!  We offer Spring, Summer, and Fall internships. Please inquire here.

How much time do I need to commit?

Our volunteer sessions are typically 2-3 hours long.  Volunteers can sign up for recurring experiences or as a one-time volunteer.

What should I bring?

Your enthusiasm, passion for books, and desire to have fun!  Book donations are also welcome.
